In Qing dynasty China, in the early 1800s, a rich woman who cannot conceive adopts a friend’s child who is missing her right leg after surviving a fire accident. This woman gave her everything and anything she could ever dream of, causing her to become spoiled, self-centered, and vain. One day, she attends a traveling puppet show that stops in her village.
